MARINA SINGLETARY

Hello, My name is Marina Singletary. I was born and raised in Amarillo Texas until my family moved to San Antonio in 2009. I grew up in a single parent household and I am the first person in my family to pursue a degree at a university. I transferred from San Antonio college to UTSA in the fall of 2022. My major is in Education and Equity with a concentration in ESL EC-6. I aspire to be a kindergarten or 1st grade teacher and I am interested in nature pedagogy and forest preschools.

Research Focus

Research shows that forest preschools have benefits such as enhancing self-confidence, social and emotional skills, and physical skills. While Forest Schools have many benefits, they are criticized for being elitist and undiverse, often being only accessible to well-off children. I am studying how low-income students perform in Forest Schools compared to their affluent peers.
