Margarita Solis is a public health student at the University of Texas at San Antonio, committed to improving health outcomes for underserved communities, particularly Spanish-speaking populations in South Texas.
Her passion was ignited her volunteering at University Hospital and Corazon Clinic, which highlighted how systemic barriers such as cultural and language barriers manifest themselves when seeking care.
As an IES Pathways Fellow, her research will focus on the impact of health misinformation on Hispanic communities, exploring how social media, translation tools, and mistrust in healthcare systems contribute to disparities in health literacy and outcomes. She aims to develop culturally sensitive interventions that promote trust, improve communication, and empower Spanish-speaking individuals to make informed health decisions.
