CLAUDIA SALCIDO
Claudia Salcido is currently a junior at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where she is pursuing a degree in interdisciplinary studies with a specialized focus on EC-12 Special Education. Her academic excellence has been recognized through the receipt of the prestigious Charles Butt Scholarship for Aspiring Teachers, which highlights her potential as a future educator. Additionally, she has been honored with the Belinda Nelson Villarreal Memorial Scholarship, which further supports her educational journey.
As a fellow in the IES P20 Pathways program, Claudia is not only committed to her studies but also actively participates in initiatives that aim to prepare students to take an active role in bridging critical educational gaps. Her passion for teaching drives her research, particularly in the area of disabilities within the educational system. She is particularly interested in understanding and addressing the challenges posed by dyslexia and ADHD, especially within Latino communities, where these issues can often be overlooked or misunderstood.
Claudia’s research is directed toward uncovering effective strategies and interventions that can better support individuals facing these learning difficulties. Currently, she is exploring the stigma surrounding learning disabilities specifically in the Hispanic community. Through her study, she aims to identify the various societal perceptions that contribute to this stigma. By doing so, she hopes to foster a greater understanding of how these attitudes can impede timely identification and access to essential special education services. Ultimately, Claudia’s work as a future educator is deeply rooted in her desire to advocate for and empower students with disabilities, ensuring they receive the support necessary to succeed in their educational endeavors.
